About me
Milly Schmid (they/she) is a queer, neurodivergent, interdisciplinary teaching artist, educator, activist, and non-profit administrator originally from Sterling, VA. After receiving Level One Joker Training from Theater of the Oppressed NYC in 2018, Milly has applied their knowledge of drama and theater exercises to facilitate conversations about social justice topics in a wide range of locations, from churches in South Central Pennsylvania to middle school classrooms in Northwest Washington, DC. They are presently in their second year as an MFA candidate in Theater Education and Applied Theater at Emerson College. Milly believes the stories we tell can serve as catalysts for change and as starting points for important cultural conversations. Their current areas of interest include increasing teaching artists self-efficacy in supporting diverse access needs in the classroom, utilizing arts-based activities to support adolescent meaning-making about Climate Justice, and investigating the capacity for drama-based-pedagogy to support students' spiritual development.
